I was asked over and over again...How did you do that? What is the outside coating? That's Cute I wish I could make it myself. Well, now you can!! Here are the step by step instructions on how to make your own miniature replica swisher sweets key chain!!
Before we begin. Let's make sure you have all the materials required to complete this project.
- Access to a computer with MS Word and a Color Printer
- Photo Paper
- Double stick tape
- Duct tape
- Hole Punch
- Laminating Pouch
- Key Chain Assembly
- Household Iron
- Grommets and Grommet Tool (Not Required, But make the key chain look a bit more refined)
To start I designed a template in MS Word. In this template I created three rectangles.
The first two rectangles (Black and Gray Rectangles in Pic Below) are 1.25 inches wide and 3 inches long. The third rectangle is 1.0 inches wide and 3 inches long (White Rectangle In Pic Below).
After I create my template, I grab my image from my PC and fill the first two rectangles with the image.
I can copy and paste up to 6 key chain images per page when printing.
After you have completed you key chain document in MS Word, save it, then print it out.
Cut out the images along the outside edges only.
Now it's time to create your key chain!!
Fold up the wrapper as shown in pic above.
Apply double side tape to this outside edge completely. (Rectangle with no image on it)
Apply double side tape to top edge and bottom edge of the wrapper. (Where the image is)
Fold Wrapper up into the mini replica. DO NOT attach the top of the mini wrapper.

Time to make the mini cigars to insert inside to give the wrapper some substance.
Take 3 inches of duct tape and roll it up into a tube. Repeat this again
Cut the duct tape tubes to about 1.5 inches in size.
Insert the replica cigars (duct tape rolls) inside the wrapper and seal the top close.
Make sure all edges are sealed closed. Trim any excess off the wrapper to make it perfect.
Time to get your iron!!
Heat the iron to a silk setting...not too hot, but not too cold either.
Place your mini wrapper inside the laminating pouch.
Iron around the edges to seal the key chain.
Trim off excess plastic to create a smooth key chain.
Grab your hole punch and place a whole in the top left corner of the wrapper.
Attach the key chain assembly and you are all DONE!!! Yes you can do it!! Give it a try!!
Now if you want to get FANCY, grab a grommet or eyelet and your grommet/eyelet tool and add a colorful grommet to the hole where the key assembly is attached.
